Jameel Syed, "The Muaddhin"
Jameel A. Syed, (“The Muaddhin”) is a Muaddhin, author and executive based out of Auburn Hills, Michigan. Syed is the brain child behind the project Muaddhin: A historic journey across America. On Friday, May 8th 2015, Jameel Syed became the first person in the history of America to make the call to prayer in all fifty of its’ states within a record span of thirty five days. NBC News referred to him as “The 50 Mosque Man”. He has been featured in hundreds of media articles around the world which include, but are not limited to: NBC News, USA Today, The Japan Times and the Saudi Gazette. In September of 2014, Syed has served as the official Muaddhin (Person who makes the call to pray) for the 51st annual ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) convention held in Detroit, Michigan and is currently the Muaddhin of the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit located in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He received classical training in performing tajweed and specifically the adhan from the age of seven with ijaza (license) to perform the adhan in accordance with the guide lines consistent with Islamic tradition by his late father Dr. Salam A. Syed, Sheikh Isa Abdul Baseer.
He is the author of the book, 99 Scenarios: Business in the American Muslim Sector. A work published upon the foundations of over 700+ Muslim organizations served around the world. During his second Hajj (Holy pilgrimage) in 2004, Syed founded the Fluidvisions marketing firm. As an Executive Consultant for his corporation, he has over 20 years of experience in the areas of strategy consulting, building brand equity and launching new ventures for small to medium sized corporations, mainly serving the Muslim American community in North America. In March of 2005, he was credited with producing the first American Islamic musical in history: “Poem of the Cloak” in Dearborn, Michigan - A one night performance that yielded a sold out venue.
After 911, Syed formed the first Council of American Islamic Relations - Speakers Bureau in efforts to bring forth qualified professionals from the Muslim American community to educate and answer the questions of the greater American community at large. Prior to starting Fluidvisions (His marketing firm), Syed gained valuable experience working for some of the most prestigious firms in the Pharma industry such as Roche Labs, Bristol Myers Squibb and Sanofi-Synthelabo. Syed attained his education from the University of Michigan's School of Kinesiology and Ross School of Business. He is a die hard Michigan Wolverine at heart! His alter ego is Spiderman, he enjoys playing football/basketball and is all-in-all a sports addict. He loves to travel, work with youth, performs Umrah (The lesser pilgrimage) annually and is a true Disney fanatic. Syed was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but now resides in Auburn Hills with his wife and two rambunctious children.
